LAWRENCE, MA (September 19, 2018) – We are pleased to announce the Lawrence facility is back online and operating without restriction. Gas was restored yesterday evening without incident. We also received confirmation from the utility company that the gas main to the Industrial Park was not exposed to the high pressure that caused the system to fail. Sekisui Voltek Lawrence Facility Gas Interruption Update
LAWRENCE, MA (September 17, 2018) – Late last week, a series of gas explosions disrupted the communities of Lawrence, Andover, and North Andover. The event caused extensive destruction and damage to dozens of homes in our area. In addition, the blasts are responsible for one fatality as well as numerous injuries to people in the affected communities.
We were relieved to learn that none of our employees experienced damage to their homes or suffered any injuries. Though our Lawrence facility was not damaged and remains open for business, gas service has been suspended due to the ongoing inspection of the underground pipes. Unfortunately, this prevents us from running the foaming operation—the final step in our manufacturing process.
Electrical service has been restored in the impacted areas, and residents in the affected communities can return home and businesses can resume operations. However, gas service has not been restored. Though state and local authorities are implementing a plan to restore it, the schedule is unpredictable as authorities work with the utility provider to ensure safety throughout the restoration process. This approach requires the gas utility to inspect the supply lines to ascertain there is no residual damage from the explosions. At the same time, a gas technician must be present when restoring the gas supply to both homes and business buildings.
We are in direct contact with our gas utility provider, and a technician will visit our facility within the next 24 hours to assess the situation. This is a necessary first step before turning the gas supply back on. As soon as gas service is restored, we will resume normal operations. We will continue to provide updates as we receive new information. In the meantime, we thank you for your understanding.
