Volextra® delivers an extra dimension in foam composites.
Volextra is extrusion-coated Volara that combines the properties of foam and solid plastic. Extrusion coating adds a wide range of aesthetic and performance qualities to the superior properties of Volara’s crosslinked, closed-cell polyolefin foam. In the Volextra manufacturing process, thickness, color, and texture are tightly controlled to adapt its properties to your specific needs. Available with a wide range of surfaces, Volextra provides a decorative advantage and allows for the design of composite materials with high-performance characteristics. Volextra is abrasion, chemical, and moisture resistant. It is highly durable and ideal for demanding applications.

- Transportation:
- moisture resistant panels, decorative textured surfaces, headliners, marine accessories
- Tape and Healthcare:
- industrial tape and medical tape, coin pads
- General Industrial:
- anti-skid pads, wrist rests, appliance gaskets, body boards, specialized protective packaging
Volextra details
Volextra is a clean, nontoxic material that contains no CFC, HCFC, or hydrocarbon blowing agents. It is available in rolls or sheets. Volextra is equivalent to Hardlon® in Japan.
- Thickness Range:
- can be manufactured with most Volara grades from 1/32in. to 1/4in. thickness; composites requiring greater thickness or mixed densities can be obtained by lamination
- Conversion Process:
- die cutting, waterjet cutting, vacuum forming, compression molding, lamination, and post embossing or printing
- Coating Thickness:
- 4 to 40mils (min and max dependent on resin); can be coated on one or both sides
- Surface Finish:
- gloss, burlap, and matte; custom embossing patterns can be considered for high-volume applications
- Texture:
- many variations through choice of composite and embossing pattern
- Additives:
- can be manufactured with fire-retardant Volara grades; fire retardants and UV inhibitors can be added to the coating
- Colors:
- available in a range of bright colors; custom colors are available
